Alliance Engineering was retained by MCM Architects to provide mechanical engineering services to design the building plumbing, HVAC and fire protection systems the new school located in Morden, MB.

Plumbing systems consisted of a central 75 kW electric domestic water heating system with recirculation for the main school, and a dedicated 40 kW electric heating system for the daycare. The daycare area was also furnished with a low temperature water loop for plumbing fixtures accessible to the children.

The heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems consisted of:

  • Central 5,200 MBH condensing gas boiler hot water heating plant.
  • Central 250 ton chilled water plant with two outdoor air-cooled chillers.
  • Two 16,000 cfm indoor dual core ERVs providing outside air ventilation to the various spaces.
  • Two-pipe fan coils for each zone to provide conditioned air for zone heating and cooling.
  • Air handling units for larger zones such as the Gymnasium, MPR, Band, and Industrial Arts.

The fire protection system consisted of a fully wet-pipe system with zones to suit various spaces and NFPA 13 compliance.

Various dedicated plumbing & HVAC systems were provided for specialty spaces such as woodshops, grooming rooms and science classrooms.
