Elmwood High School was constructed in the 1956 with additions constructed in 1958, 1962, 1964 and 1980 and has a gross floor area of approximately 176,332 ft2. The original heating and ventilation systems at the school were served by two low pressure steam plants with steam baseboard, unit ventilators and steam heating coils interspersed throughout the school. The project involved the complete replacement of the steam plants and related terminal units with a new consolidated hydronic heating system.
Features of the new hydronic heating and ventilation system included a new, high-efficiency, natural-gas fired, hot water boiler heating plant, new hydronic pump and piping distribution system, new terminal heating units, modifications to existing air handling equipment to accommodate new hydronic coils and new heat recovery ventilators.
The project size and complexity dictated a phased approach over multiple construction seasons.
The project demonstrated AESI capabilities to execute a large building services project in a phased approach.
